Despite anticipated slower growth and reduced capital spending in the U.S. midstream sector in 2022, driven by factors including policy changes and shifting capacity needs, international markets and energy transition initiatives like carbon capture and hydrogen offer growth opportunities, while Europe’s gas shortage may spur storage capacity increases.

Due to midstream capacity issues operators’ flaring has become a serious problem in areas like the Bakken. However, there are many new emerging technologies and strategies that may reduce flaring.

Before COVID-19, several new pipelines came online and the natural gas transport capacity outstripped supply. However, demand disruption suddenly forced operators to cut on capital spending which resulted in a decline in the associated gas production. What is the future of pipeline infrastructure with a rebound in oil prices?
