February 2016 – The 10th Annual Midstream Summit was held from February 16-18, 2016 at the Houston Marriott in Houston, TX. ADI Analytics’ CEO Uday Turaga presented on the “Overview of U.S. LNG Liquefaction Facilities, Existing and in Development.” The presentation aimed to answer four key questions including:
- What do the size, location, existing supporting infrastructure look like for assessing current LNG facilities?
- Where are the new facilities planned and what potential markets will they serve?
- What’s due to come online in 2016 and 2017?
- What supporting infrastructure will be needed?
Four key messages were also addressed. First, demonstrating how the growing supply of cheap shale gas has driven interest in gas monetization options with LNG being the most popular. Second, many large-scale LNG export projects have been proposed but only a few are likely to move forward due to various reasons. Third, the LNG projects that will move forward will spur investment in additional midstream natural gas infrastructure although in the medium term. Lastly, small-and medium-sized LNG opportunities are developing although their economics vary considerably depending on the market segments they target.
