ADI Analytics gathered competitive intelligence on the operational and commercial practices of key mobile emissions catalysts manufacturers. This effort included benchmarking their manufacturing processes and technology, as well as their sales and commercial strategies.
The client
A large European chemical producer sought to maximize margins and profitability for its mobile emissions catalysts business.
The situation
The client required a strategic analysis of competitors’ operational and commercial practices to identify opportunities for cost reduction. The benchmarking focused on manufacturing processes, technology, supply chain management, and waste recycling procedures.
ADI’s contributions
Production process analysis
We developed an initial view on the production processes of key manufacturers, outlining the core steps: washcoat slurry preparation, washcoating, drying and calcination, and final labeling and packaging.
Expert interviews & process deep dive
We identified and interviewed experts familiar with various mobile catalyst manufacturers. The focus of these interviews was to gather detailed information on their processes, including the level of automation, number of operators, production line design, and waste management and recycling practices.
Commercial benchmarking
We assessed the best practices and continuous improvement methodologies used by key competitors. We also reviewed their sales and commercial practices, including contracting variability and the transparency of their production processes and costs.
Key outcomes
- ADI assisted the client with benchmarking their operational and commercial best practices with their competitors to help develop their cost reduction strategy.
