In November 2024, global SAF advanced via policy, corporate deals, international work, infrastructure, and technology advancements.

  • The representatives of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee have announced a call for public input on the biofuel tax policies, specifically the 45Z tax credit, a policy to incentivize low-carbon fuels, like SAF by December 13, 2024.
  • The International Airline Group (IAG) has signed a 10-year agreement with Infinium to purchase e-SAF for its operation in the U.K. market from late 2026.
  • Simply Blue Group, an Ireland-based renewable energy development company, and the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of the Goldboro SAF project in Nova Scotia, Canada.
  • ZenGroup, a Japanese e-commerce company, has announced an agreement with DHL to expand the use of SAF in its shipping solutions through GoGreen Plus.
  • Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (GC), PTT Oil and Retail Business (OR), and Thai Airways announced a partnership to promote the adoption of SAF in Thailand.
  • Zero Petroleum, an e-fuel company, plans to build a commercialscale SAF production facility in Whyalla, South Australia.
  • Petroineos has announced that its oil refinery in Grangemouth, Scotland will close in 2025. This announcement has prompted Unite, a major U.K. trade union, to propose a phased transition of the refinery into a hub for SAF production.
  • Willis Sustainable Fuels has announced its partnership with McDermott, an EPC company, to perform early engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) related services for its SAF facilities in Tees Valley, U.K., which will produce ~5 million gallons of SAF annually.
  • SAS, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Copenhagen Airport, and Aalborg Airport have announced a joint collaboration to advance the production of SAF in Denmark.
  • Euglena, a Japanese technology developer, announced its partnership with EcoCeres, a renewable fuel producer, to promote the development of SAF in Japan.
  • Invizyne Technologies has been awarded a $2 million project, from the U.S. Department of Defense’s BioMADE initiative, aimed at advancing SAF production by enabling enzyme production for cell-free biomanufacturing of SAF.
