Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) initiatives in April 2024 gained traction through new airline agreements, refinery expansions, and public–private partnerships. Air New Zealand, Modetour, and Desert Jet broadened SAF adoption across aviation operations, while the U.K. Ministry of Defense expanded procurement to support low-emission flight programs.
Production capacity and innovation efforts accelerated with major projects underway. Repsol expanded renewable fuel production at its Cartagena plant in Spain, St1 and SCA began biofuel operations in Sweden, and Avina announced plans for an ATJ SAF facility. Growing private investment and government funding, including support from the U.S. Department of Energy, underscored continued commitment to scaling next-generation SAF technologies.
