Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) progress in November 2022 was marked by stronger decarbonization targets, new plant announcements, and expanded policy support. ICAO member states reaffirmed their net-zero by 2050 commitment, with airlines like Qatar Airways and Southwest Airlines advancing interim carbon-reduction goals.
Technological and production momentum continued as alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) emerged as the leading pathway, with several plants under development in the U.S. and Japan by LanzaJet, Gevo, Air Company, and Axens. New SAF testing and partnerships by NHV, TotalEnergies, and major airlines strengthened adoption efforts, while the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and decarbonization plans from India and Asia Pacific nations further reinforced global policy alignment toward sustainable aviation.
