At the 2023 ADI Forum, Victor Toffoli of ADI Analytics highlighted the steady growth in polyethylene and polypropylene markets, driven by packaging, automotive, infrastructure, and renewable energy, with PP and HDPE leading demand, while recycled HDPE is rapidly expanding and set to significantly impact new HDPE demand by 2030, partly due to EV growth.

Polyolefin demand, especially for PP in EVs and HDPE in infrastructure, was set for growth, driven by ethylene capacity expansion in Asia and a rise in recycled HDPE, while China’s shift to a net polypropylene exporter should intensify global competition.

While inflation impacts building and construction, specialty polymers were seeing significant growth in EVs, packaging, and solar panels, with sustainability driving regional differences and Asia leading in bio-based plastic adoption.
