Semiconductor and specialty chemical investment is driving new industrial gas and materials capacity. Linde and Air Liquide are expanding air separation and industrial gas production in the U.S. and Taiwan to supply advanced semiconductor and memory chip manufacturing, while PetroChina and Epigral are advancing ethane cracker and epoxy resin projects in China and India. Sasol and Envision Energy are also studying a green hydrogen facility in South Africa to support lower-carbon fuel and chemical production.

Meanwhile, portfolio rationalization continues across the sector. ENEOS’s acquisition of TPC Group and Lummus Technology’s purchase of Shell’s environmental catalysts business reflect consolidation around core strengths, while Koppers and BASF India are closing legacy facilities amid overcapacity and cost pressure. Chemical recyclers and consumer brands are also deepening collaboration on food-grade recycled packaging, and California lawmakers continue to weigh PFAS oversight in pesticides.
