Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) development in January 2023 gained momentum through expanded 100% SAF testing and increased government support. Airlines and OEMs intensified trials for commercial flights, while the U.S. Department of Energy funded 17 projects to advance sustainable fuel technologies.

Further progress included new partnerships across the U.S., U.K., and UAE to promote cleaner jet fuels, ongoing research into alternative feedstocks such as terpenes and corn stover, and Illinois’ SAF tax credit, which combined with federal incentives, significantly strengthened local industry growth.
