In May 2025, SAF advanced via airline commitments, production growth, investments, partnerships, and policy support.

  • Qantas received its largest-ever SAF shipment of ~0.53 million gallons at Sydney Airport, imported from Malaysia, by Ampol, an Australian petroleum company.
  • Bangkok Airways signed an agreement with Bangkok’s PTT Oil and Retail Business to purchase domestically produced SAF for its flight operations.
  • Alaska Airlines announced a partnership with Chooose, a Norwegian software company, and the SAFc Registry to simplify the purchasing and tracking of SAF credits.
  • Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group signed two agreements with Neste and World Energy to acquire SAF and SAF certificates (SAFc).
  • Future Energy Global signed a multi-year agreement with Montana Renewables to purchase ~15 million gallons of SAF, starting from late 2025.
  • Montana Renewables announced the completion of SAF capacity expansion at its Great Falls, Montana facility ahead of schedule and at a lower than initial projected cost.
  • Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation (MUFG) announced a ~$30 million investment in Euglena Sustainable Investment Limited (ESIL), a subsidiary of Euglena Co., to develop a biofuel production facility in Malaysia and develop a SAF supply chain in Japan.
  • Alder Renewables and Bioénergie AE Côte-Nord entered a partnership to produce SAF from sawmill residues in Port-Cartier, Québec, Canada.
  • LanzaJet and BioD announced a collaboration to conduct a feasibility study to develop Colombia’s first SAF production plant.
  • United Airlines announced an investment to support development of Twelve’s first PtL SAF facility in Moses Lake, Washington.
  • BP received approval from the U.K. Ministry of Defence to produce SAF via co-processing with up to 30% renewable HEFA feedstock, a significant rise from the previous 5% limit.
  • The Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA) issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to enhance SAF supply, focusing on SAF produced from the PtL pathway and advanced bio-based feedstocks.
  • Zhejiang Jiaao Enprotech, a Chinese biofuels producer, was granted a state-issued export license for SAF, allowing the company to export SAF produced at its Lianyungang facility in China.
