In August 2024, SAF advanced globally via new tech, waste projects, corporate use, military, licensing, book-claim, facility funds, and government net-zero support.

  • Caphenia, a SAF producer, announced installation of its custombuilt Plasma-Boudouard Reactor (PBR) at its pilot plant in Germany, where it will convert electricity, biomethane, and CO2 into SAF and other renewable fuels.
  • Mana, a waste-to-fuels company, NORCE, a Norwegian independent research institute, and Equinor have signed an agreement to develop a waste-to-SAF plant in Mongstad, Norway.
  • Acer, a Taiwan-based information and communication technology (ICT) company, has partnered with Dimerco Express, a Taiwanbased freight company, to utilize SAF on Cathay Cargo flights.
  • The UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced that Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets are using SAF on routine operations for the first time.
  • KBR has signed a licensing agreement to provide its proprietary SAF technology to Avina Clean Hydrogen for its U.S. project.
  • DC Aviation has signed an agreement with AEG Fuels, an aviation fuel provider, to reduce its fleet emissions through a SAF book-and-claim arrangement.
  • Zhejiang Jiaao Enprotech has announced an investment agreement with BP for its SAF facility in China.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced $291 million in funding via the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to support projects aimed at achieving net-zero GHG emissions from aviation by 2050.
  • Green Air Fuel Technology (GAFT) has secured ~$835 million grant from the Temasek Foundation to advance its SAF production technology.
