In May 2024, SAF adoption grew via initial airline use, cross-sector work, better fuel access, e-fuel plans, and ongoing research investment.
- Vietnam Airlines operated its first flight using SAF from the Singapore airport. The SAF was supplied by Neste.
- Vestas, a wind turbine manufacturer, will use 40% blend of SAF in the helicopters transporting technicians and crew to the Baltic Eagle wind farm in the Baltic Sea during its construction phase in 2024.
- Avfuel announced the expansion of its SAF supply to France at Paris Le Bourget Airport (LBG), Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD), and Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport (CFE).
- Neste has announced an expansion of its capability to supply SAF to European customers in collaboration with VTTI, an energy storage and terminal infrastructure company.
- Embraer has announced a partnership with Avfuel to enhance its usage of SAF supplied by Neste at Melbourne Orlando International Airport (KMLB) to one load (8,000 gallons) per week.
- Metafuels, in partnership with European Energy, a global renewable energy developer, has announced plans for an e-SAF facility in Denmark.
- NYK Bulkship Asia transported its first shipment of SAF from Singapore, unloading at the ports of Los Angeles and San Francisco in the U.S., for further delivery to regional airports.
- Ryanair has extended its partnership with the Trinity College Dublin, alongside an additional ~$2.7 million contribution to support the Ryanair’s Sustainable Aviation Research Centre.
