Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) milestones in January 2024 were marked by new research partnerships, expanded airport availability, and breakthroughs in production technology. The Indian Institute of Petroleum advanced plans with Airbus for SAF development in India, while Long Beach Airport began offering SAF for general aviation.

Major technology and supply developments underscored the industry’s growing maturity. LanzaJet inaugurated the world’s first ethanol-to-SAF plant, Honeywell and Topsoe implemented large-scale production technologies, and Blue Biofuels partnered with Vertimass to produce renewable fuels. New offtake and collaboration agreements from Ryanair, Norwegian Air Shuttle, and Emirates, along with the launch of the Hong Kong SAF Coalition, reflected broadening global participation in aviation decarbonization.
