Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) development in December 2023 advanced through airport initiatives, industry collaborations, and new production investments. Skellefteå City Airport joined Scandinavian Airlines’ sustainability program, while Long Beach Airport and London Biggin Hill Airport expanded SAF availability through new supply and demonstration programs.
Project expansion and technology progress continued globally. Rolls-Royce and Shell launched the SAFinity program to accelerate market access, while Azure Sustainable Fuels, Neste, and Energy Absolute announced major production investments across North America and Asia. Additional innovation and funding from Metafuels, My Rechemical, and updates from the U.S. Department of Treasury highlighted growing momentum in scaling SAF supply and policy alignment.
