- Skellefteå City Airport in Sweden joined Scandinavian Airlines’ corporate sustainability program, to increase its engagement in the aviation industry’s climate transition.
- Long Beach Airport announced the introduction of SAF at its general aviation terminals, supplied by Atlantic Aviation.
- Rolls-Royce and Shell Aviation announced a new SAFinity program to accelerate SAF availability and use.
- London Biggin Hill Airport demonstrated its first London Heli Shuttle flight using a 10% SAF blend.
- Jet Aviation, a General Dynamics subsidiary, announced an agreement with World Fuels Services to supply SAF in Arizona and Montana.
- Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, a subsidiary of ONGC, announced plans to start SAF production in the next two years to support the Indian government’s target of achieving 1% blending by 2027.
- Azure Sustainable Fuels, a Canadian developer of low-carbon fuels, announced plans to develop a 135 million gallons per year (gpy) SAF facility in Cherryvale, Kansas.
- Energy Absolute, a renewable energy and electric vehicle developer, has joined Bangchak Corp, a Thailand-based petroleum and energy company, to produce SAF in Thailand.
- Neste announced an investment of $2.74 billion to convert its Porvoo crude oil refinery into a biofuels production facility.
- Metafuels, a Zurich-based climate tech start-up, which converts green methanol into eSAF secured $8 million in seed funding from Energy Impacts Partners and Contrarian Ventures.
- My Rechmenical, a subsidiary of NextChem, was awarded a feasibility study to scale SAF production from municipal and commercial solid waste in the UAE.
- The U.S. Department of Treasury and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that the current Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Technologies (“GREET”) model used for assessing life cycle emissions of SAF doesn’t meet Section 40B requirements. A modified GREET model will be available in early 2024.
