In December 2023, global aviation stakeholders pursued Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through diverse collaborations and initiatives.

  • LOT Polish Airlines and SkyNRG signed a SAF book-and-claim deal, allowing the carrier to access carbon reduction benefits without directly using the fuel in its own flights.
  • Raya Airways, a Malaysian freight operator, announced its participation in the DHL Express’ GoGreen Plus service.
  • Royal Air Monaco, the national airlines of Morocco, successfully operated its first flight using 40% SAF blend.
  • VINCI Airports, a global leader in airport concessions, and TotalEnergies joined forces to make SAF available at Saint-Nazaire Montoir airport in France.
  • Thai Airways operated its first flight from Phuket to Bangkok using blended SAF supplied by PTT, a Thai oil and gas company.
  • FatHopes Energy, a Malaysia-based biofuel feedstock supplier, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lootah Biofuels to supply SAF to airlines flying out from Dubai International Airport.
  • China’s State Power Investment Corp announced a %.85 billion investment in northeast Chine to produce 132 million gallons per year (gpy) of SAF from hydrogen derived from wind energy by 2030.
  • Atlas Air announced that it will use SAF on its cargo flights in Spain and has partnered with Repsol to support its operations.
  • ENOC and Marubeni, a Japanese trading and investment company, signed a MoU to provide SAF across Middle East and North Africa region.
  • Wizz Air announced a $6.3 million investment in Firefly to supply up to 173 million gallons of SAF over 15 years starting from 2028.
  • TotalEnergies, Masdar, and Axens partnered to successfully conduct its first test flight demonstration using SAF derived from methanol.
  • LanzaTech and Tadweer formed a partnership to initiate an integrated waste-to-SAF feasibility study to scale SAF production.
