Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) adoption in November 2023 gained pace through major test flights, supply contracts, and regional refinery investments. Emirates led with a 100% SAF-powered A380 demonstration, while Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Shell signed a long-term supply deal to blend SAF for all aircraft operations starting the following year.
Global expansion and investment continued across commercial, military, and cargo sectors. Gulfstream Aerospace and Abu Dhabi Aviation achieved milestone SAF flights, and LX Pantos joined Korean Air’s cargo SAF program. Key funding from Macquarie, ENOC, and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, along with Preem’s refinery conversion in Sweden, reinforced growing financial and industrial commitment to scaling SAF production.
