In October 2023, SAF expansion involved Middle East policy promotion, production partnerships, credit system testing, refinery certification, new facility sites, long-term purchase deals, technology integration, e-SAF agreements, government funding, and airline offtake.

  • Masdar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing to promote and facilitate the adoption of SAF policies in the Middle East.
  • Petronas and Idemitsu signed an agreement to collaborate on SAF production and distribution.
  • Neste and DHL Group announced a collaboration with ISCC to test their Credit Transfer System.
  • ADNOC achieved the International Sustainability Carbon Certification (ISCC) to produce SAF at its Ruwais refining complex.
  • Willis Lease Finance Corporation and its subsidiary, Willis Sustainable Fuels, announced Teesworks in Tees Valley, England, as the chosen site for their SAF production facility.
  • World Energy and Microsoft announced a long-term agreement SAF purchase over 10 years through SAF certificates (SAFc).
  • Honeywell and GranBio Technologies announced a partnership to integrate Honeywell’s ethanol-to-jet (ETJ) technology with GranBio’s advanced cellulosic ethanol technology.
  • Orlen and Yokogawa Europe signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate industrial-scale production of e-SAF.
  • The U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office announced an investment of $16.7 million to support of five projects to accelerate the development of cost-effective biofuels and biochemicals.
  • OMV announced an offtake agreement with Air France-KLM Group for the supply of 2,000 metric tons of SAF.
