Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) activity in September 2023 accelerated through new investments, government support, and airline partnerships. Kneissl Touristik announced SAF use for flights within the Lufthansa Group, while Gevo received funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to advance the Climate-Smart Farm-to-Flight Program.
Production and partnership progress continued globally, with United Airlines securing a long-term offtake deal with Cemvita and Korean Air launching an Air Cargo SAF Program to engage customers in SAF contributions. New facility plans from Aemetis, Varo, and Airbus, along with Lummus Technology’s commercialization of ethanol-to-SAF technology, demonstrated continued growth in SAF infrastructure and innovation.
