Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) adoption in August 2023 advanced through cargo programs, inaugural flights, feedstock research, and carbon offset initiatives. All Nippon Airways (ANA) expanded its SAF program to include ANA Cargo, while Fiji Airways completed its first flight using SAF supplied from Singapore to Fiji.
Industry collaboration and certification also strengthened globally. Idemitsu Josan and LOPS began a feedstock procurement study in Japan, and Southwest Airlines partnered with CHOOSE to offer customers flight carbon offset options. GE Aerospace integrated SAF use into helicopter engine operations, while Raízen achieved certification as the first ISCC CORSIA Plus ethanol producer. In Malaysia, Petronas and the national palm oil board agreed to explore waste-based feedstocks for future SAF production.
