Global Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) adoption gained momentum in March 2023 through airline investments, production conversions, and feasibility studies, supported by ongoing technological and research initiatives. Finnair expanded its portfolio with a major SAF purchase from Neste, while Nacero began converting its Texas facility to produce SAF using methanol-to-jet technology.
Collaborations also advanced across regions, with Eneos and Ampol exploring SAF production in Australia, DG Fuels starting a FEED study for a SAF plant in Louisiana, and the U.S. Department of Energy announcing funding to accelerate biofuel and bioproduct innovation.
