Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) activity in February 2023 advanced with plant upgrades, military collaboration, and supportive policy initiatives. Valery Energy and Darling Ingredients approved an investment to upgrade the Port Arthur plant in Texas, while the first military helicopter flight using high SAF content was completed in partnership with TotalEnergies and Safran.
Broader industry efforts included Japanese companies strengthening domestic SAF production, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approving sugarcane ethanol use at LanzaJet’s plant, and a Washington state senator proposing tax incentives to expand SAF manufacturing and adoption.
