At the 2022 ADI Forum, Joe Gentry, VP of Licensing at GTC Vorro, discussed the differences between U.S. and European regulatory adoption during the Midstream and NGL panel. He challenged the overemphasis on CO2 as a pollutant, arguing that other emissions, such as H2S contributing to SO2 pollution, posed greater health risks. While many companies had prioritized carbon reduction, Gentry highlighted the high costs and burdens of CO2 capture, advocating for a more balanced regulatory approach that focused on pollutants with direct environmental and health consequences.
Gentry also warned against adopting European-style regulations without considering economic impacts, stressing that such policies could reduce industry competitiveness and increase consumer costs. He called for a realistic, data-driven approach to environmental regulation, ensuring that emission policies accurately reflected their true impact. The discussion emphasized the need for strategic regulatory frameworks that supported both sustainability and economic viability.
