We’re pleased to share that an op-ed by ADI Analytics CEO Uday Turaga and energy industry consultant Prashant Kumar has been published in The Hindu, one of India’s leading national newspapers.

In the article, India Should Back Biomass Over Coal for Gasification, we examine India’s ambitious gasification plans and argue that agricultural biomass offers a more practical and scalable pathway than coal or lignite. While coal gasification continues to face challenges related to feedstock quality, technology readiness, economics, and carbon emissions, biomass is already widely available, better suited to gasification processes, and capable of supporting the production of methanol, ammonia, and other chemicals with a significantly lower environmental footprint.

The article highlights India’s vast agricultural residue resources, the opportunity to reduce open-field burning, and the potential to create rural economic value while strengthening the country’s energy security and domestic manufacturing base. We also discuss why a phased approach, focused on deploying commercially proven biomass technologies today while continuing to evaluate coal-based pathways, is more likely to deliver long-term results.

We are honored to contribute to the public discussion on the future of energy, chemicals, and industrial development in India.
