At the 2024 ADI Forum, Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Chemical Market Resources, highlighted the pivotal role of innovation in the plastics and polymers industry. He presented research demonstrating that innovation and R&D-driven business models consistently led to higher total shareholder returns compared to other strategies. Turaga emphasized that companies excelling in new product development, such as in catalysis or specialty polymers, generally achieved superior financial performance, underscoring innovation’s importance in the sector.

Turaga also stressed that regulatory pressure was a key driver for innovation. He shared an example of how innovation in catalyst technologies allowed the diesel industry to drastically reduce sulfur content with minimal cost impact, effectively meeting stringent regulations. This demonstrated that innovation was crucial for achieving sustainability goals and overcoming regulatory challenges within the chemical industry.
