At the 2023 FlexPO+ (now incorporated into the ADI Forum), Srini Godavarthy, VP, Strategic Planning, Portfolio Management, and Finance, PTT GC, joined Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics on the specialty polymers panel, discussing the future of specialty polymers. PTT GC was actively growing its mechanical recycling business, with new plants in the works to recycle PET and HDPE for various uses, including textiles and beverage bottles. The company was strategically securing feedstock through supply agreements and developing markets for these recycled materials, acknowledging the complex process of meeting diverse customer demands.

A key challenge was the limited recyclability of certain polymers, like ethylene-based plastics which can only be recycled about 6-7 times before degradation. While exploring solutions for propylene-based materials and the potential of chemical recycling, PTT GC was also looking into recycling complex waste streams like wind turbine blades. This effort was part of a broader industry push to advance polymer recycling technologies.
