At the 2023 ADI Forum, KC Littlefield, GM, Technology Commercialization CCUS, Chevron New Energies, and Chris Fraughton, Director, CCS & Heat Pumps, Americas, MAN ES, joined moderator Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics for the panel on decarbonizing oil and gas/CCUS. The discussion centered around the potential applications of CCUS within the oil and gas industry. Littlefield highlighted the need to decarbonize upstream operations, including turbines. Additionally she explored capture technologies for pipelines and refineries. She said they focused on carbon utilization, such as mineralization and CO2 to fuels. They partnered with industries like cement and steel. Infrastructure limitations, particularly for CO2 transport and storage, are a key challenge. Fraughton emphasized the complexity and supply chain issues of CO2 compression. This was crucial in CCUS. Both agreed that CCUS had potential across the oil and gas value chain. However, technological advancements, economic viability, and infrastructure development were critical for widespread adoption.
