At the 2023 FlexPO+ (now incorporated into the ADI Forum), Joseph Gentry, VP, GTC Vorro, and Panuswee Dwivedi, Project Manager, ADI Analytics discussed the shifting aromatics landscape and the future of the aromatics market. China’s growing aromatics self-sufficiency, particularly for polyester, impacted the global market. The U.S. adapted its gasoline-focused refineries to lighter crude and feedstock competition. It has potential to repurpose assets as gasoline demand plateaus.

The U.S. petrochemical sector thrived on low-cost ethane for ethylene. Emerging technologies, like extracting aromatics from FCC gasoline, offered new supply avenues. These could enhance future domestic aromatics production and integration.
