China’s growing aromatics self-sufficiency, particularly for polyester, impacted the global market. The U.S. adapted its gasoline-focused refineries to lighter crude and feedstock competition. It has potential to repurpose assets as gasoline demand plateaus.
The U.S. petrochemical sector thrived on low-cost ethane for ethylene. Emerging technologies, like extracting aromatics from FCC gasoline, offered new supply avenues. These could enhance future domestic aromatics production and integration.
