At the 2023 FlexPO+ (now incorporated into the ADI Forum), Panuswee Dwivedi, Project Manager, ADI Analytics, discussed the evolving US ethane market. While surging ethane/LPG exports were supported by new infrastructure, gasoline blending’s impact on feedstocks was also discussed. Additionally, the US solidified its global dominance with rising LPG exports. She said U.S. ethane rejection was set to decline through 2025. This was driven by increased ethane cracker capacity and favorable petrochemical margins. Moreover, global demand for ethylene derivatives continued to support this trend despite projected uncertainties.
The U.S.’s natural gas advantage was forecast to boost ethane and LPG exports, expected to dominate global markets. Sanctions on Russian crude could also open opportunities for U.S.-based naphtha and ethane in Western Europe.
