At the 2022 ADI Forum, Dena Wiggins, CEO of the Natural Gas Supply Association, emphasized the industry’s support for an economy-wide price on carbon, arguing that regulators should allow all fuels to compete fairly rather than picking winners and losers. She stressed that carbon pricing could send the right market signals, enabling companies to meet climate goals while ensuring a competitive energy landscape. Despite natural gas not being exempt from carbon pricing, Wiggins underscored the industry’s commitment to fair competition, highlighting the association’s stance that markets matter as the best path forward.
Wiggins also addressed infrastructure challenges, noting significant regulatory hurdles in permitting and development. She emphasized that natural gas infrastructure was essential for market access, particularly in getting products to export markets. The discussion reinforced the need for policy reforms to streamline infrastructure approval processes, ensuring efficient energy delivery while supporting industry growth.
