At the 2022 ADI Forum, Dena Wiggins, CEO, Natural Gas Supply Association and industry leaders discussed the challenges of implementing carbon pricing, noting that while some sectors had recognized its necessity earlier, the natural gas trade association had formally supported it three years prior, becoming the first major group to do so. Despite the political and economic hurdles, experts emphasized that carbon pricing remained a crucial topic, advocating for continued dialogue and policy development.
Panelists acknowledged that meaningful legislative progress on carbon pricing had stalled, with no realistic or detailed discussions taking place in Congress. They expressed frustration over the lack of political momentum, noting that global markets were advancing carbon policies faster than the U.S. The conversation highlighted the uphill battle for industry-backed carbon pricing and underscored the need for persistent advocacy despite legislative challenges.
