In the August 2020 edition of the ADI chemicals newsletter, we discussed how global chemical companies increasingly faced ESG pressures amidst a mixed 2020 economic outlook. This featured a forecasted GDP contraction but a late Q2 recovery in auto sales and PMI.
Europe saw plastic recycling and green hydrogen collaborations, while the Americas had an ethane export terminal nearing completion. A PET recycling acquisition, and polyethylene plant restarted. Asia-Pacific expanded petrochemical capacity, banned single-use plastics, and progressed major projects. Alberta introduced an incentive program, and petcoke gasification feasibility studies were contracted.
