During the upstream panel at the 2020 ADI Forum, Helen Currie, Chief Economist, ConocoPhillips, discussed the global outlook for shale gas and tight oil. While these resources were present globally, significant development beyond North America was still limited, with Argentina being a leading example. However, other countries faced hurdles in scaling up production, as infrastructure, service sector availability, fiscal terms, and market conditions were critical factors in determining the full development potential of unconventional resources. Overcoming these challenges would be essential for unlocking shale’s global potential as the energy landscape continued to evolve.
