During a 2019 virtual workshop, Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics; Andrew Palmer, Program Director, USEA; Shawn Bennett, Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. DOE; Rod Rinholm, Executive Director, International Business, GTI; and Kexin Liu, Program Manager, GTI, unveiled a significant study on small‑scale and containerized Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) deployment in Central and Eastern Europe. The research identified Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Albania, and North Macedonia as prime markets for immediate LNG adoption—particularly in road and marine transportation and industrial manufacturing—leveraging LNG’s cost‑effectiveness and the efficiency of a “virtual pipeline” system via trucks and barges. The study emphasized that transparent policies, clear regulatory frameworks, financial incentives, and robust public awareness were crucial to overcoming current challenges and fully realizing the region’s small‑scale LNG potential, thereby enhancing energy security.
