During the gas utilization panel at the 2019 ADI Forum, Eberhard Lucke, Vice President of Process Engineering and Technology, NiQuan Energy, explored the economics of gas‑to‑liquids (GTL) projects, emphasizing that their success hinged on low natural gas prices and high‑value end products. The discussion delved into how the GTL project in Trinidad and Tobago navigated typical challenges by securing long‑term supply and offtake agreements, benefiting from favorable pricing and financing, and capitalizing on growing investor interest in clean energy despite ongoing hurdles. While capital markets showed increasing enthusiasm for funding green energy initiatives, the viability of GTL projects ultimately depended on sound economic fundamentals, as demonstrated by this project’s success.
