ADI Analytics presented a webinar in 2017 outlining key trends and their outlook for the global chemical industry. Tyler Wilson, Analyst, ADI Analytics, moderated while Uday Turaga, CEO and Founder, ADI Analytics, shared insights derived from ADI’s research and consulting work, which had encompassed over 25 projects since ADI’s acquisition of Chemical Market Resources in late 2017, covering various segments of the chemical value chain. The ADI team also updated numerous studies from their extensive portfolio of multi-client reports focused on polymers and plastics.

Key takeaways from the webinar included the underperformance of global and U.S. chemical markets following a period of strong growth, with expectations of continued challenges in the medium term due to decreasing demand growth. Despite this, U.S. capital spending in chemicals was projected to increase, fueled by the availability of affordable shale-based feedstock and some capacity expansions globally. The initial wave of U.S. ethane crackers, primarily focused on LLDPE and some LDPE production for export, introduces risk due to ongoing tariff disputes and reliance on global markets amidst competition. The webinar also touched upon medium-term growth catalysts like distribution, plastics sustainability, specialty polyolefins, and novel process technologies.
