June 2018- The 27th World Gas Conference was held in Washington, DC from June 25-29, 2018. This was the first time the conference was held in a country that not only is the world’s largest gas consumer and producer but also the country that data showed to be breaking the record for the size of its gas resource base.
The theme of the conference was “Fueling the Future” and with this in mind ADI’s CEO, Uday Turaga presented on “Fueling the Oilfield with Natural Gas.” Key messages included discussing U.S. natural gas supply, which ADI emphasized will continue to be abundant and cheap across various applications. Second, oilfield equipment has the ability to be fueled in multiple ways including through field gas, pipeline gas, LNG, and CNG. ADI went into depth to talk about the relative attractiveness of each of the options.
Third, shale plays have amide supply, but other factors play a role too such as gas processing and CNG and LNG infrastructure. The presentation mentioned costs anchors transportation distances from shale gas plays as well. Lastly, gas quality is essential but varies across shales causing setbacks such as having to limit the use of field gas to only a few plays.
ADI used its expertise to look at the feasibility of using field gas, pipeline gas, LNG, and CNG in shale plays such as Marcellus and Utica, Haynesville, Permian, among others.
