July 2016- Held in Houston, TX at Norris Conference Center-CityCentre, the Petchem Tech Forum 2016 hosted by Hydrocarbon Processing aimed to highlight and discuss advances for U.S. petrochemicals.
At this two-day event, ADI Analytics presented on, 'Rising Octane Values and Aromatics Markets.'
From this, ADI put together four key messages to present to the forum including: one, the value of an octane barrel has risen significantly despite of the dropping oil prices and near-maximum ethanol blending. Although this is not surprising, the speed to which it has risen is new. Two, two factors including light tight oil use and rising gasoline demand has caused a resurgence in demand caused by rising vehicle miles traveled all leading to a rise in octane values. Third, gasoline blending, and petrochemicals must compete to secure aromatic hydrocarbon streams and optimize economic value for operators. Lastly, in the near-term, gasoline blending will be the most likely use of aromatic reformate streams although medium-term prospects look promising for extraction.
ADI set forth research goals to benchmark and analyze refiners financial, operational, commercial, and strategic performance in North America. By doing this, ADI was able to gather qualitative data on refiner performance and challenges.
