At the 2024 ADI Forum, Ben Scharff, MD, Grace Matthews and Jim Sledzik, MD, Aramco Ventures, joined Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics, for a panel discussion on the current state of the chemical industry. The panel explored key trends, including M&A activity, private equity investment, and sustainability initiatives, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

Capital remained abundant for chemical and materials investments, particularly in private equity, despite interest rate challenges. Key trends included European firms acquiring recycling assets and growing interest in software for chemicals. Corporate carve-outs were rising as large companies optimized portfolios. Private equity was actively buying but slower to sell, creating a backlog of mature assets, and ESG increasingly influenced deal-making. While holding periods were extending, a strong market for PE-owned businesses was anticipated, highlighting continued investor interest in the evolving energy and materials landscape.
