At the 2024 ADI Forum, Markus Digruber, EVP, Hoerbiger, and Chendhil Periasamy, VP, Air Liquide joined Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics for a panel on hydrogen’s role in the energy transition. They highlighted that hydrogen demand remains the primary hurdle for green hydrogen projects, despite promising forecasts and IRA incentives, and projected green hydrogen to reach parity by 2025. The market was still in its early stages, with few proposed green hydrogen projects reaching final investment decision, leading to a focus on developing the supply chain.
The discussion also delved into hydrogen mobility, weighing the benefits of liquid hydrogen for transport efficiency against gaseous hydrogen for refueling convenience. Key challenges included lowering electrolyzer costs, establishing large-scale refueling infrastructure, and bridging the substantial economic gap between green and gray hydrogen. The panel also touched on advancements in high-pressure hydrogen compression and the intricacies of alternative production methods like pyrolysis.
