At the 2023 FlexPO+ (now incorporated into the ADI Forum), Steve Brown, CEO, Chemstations, joined the innovation panel, moderated by Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics. Brown said that chemists could significantly accelerate new material development by leveraging process simulation tools. This focus on the power of process modeling applied to real-world application in chemicals. The most effective approach involved integrating these tools from the R&D phase through pilot to full-scale production. This created a seamless workflow, allowing data and definitions to transfer effortlessly between stages. As a result, it drastically reduced the number of experiments, and the time needed for scale-up.
While this integrated method was rare and represented best practice, the industry often struggled with siloed teams. Fragmented knowledge transfer further complicated the situation. Despite efforts to establish data transfer standards, widespread adoption remained elusive. This issue hindered the overall speed and effectiveness of new material commercialization.
