At the 2023 ADI Forum, Anthony Borski, Director, Project Management Office, Nel Hydrogen, and Markus Digruber, EVP, Head of Innovation and Business Development, Hoerbiger, joined the energy transition/hydrogen panel, moderated by Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics. They discussed how the burgeoning hydrogen industry was balancing scaling electrolyzer production with demand. Both PEM and alkaline technologies saw strong interest driven by the need to store surplus renewable energy.

Pilot projects were rapidly expanding towards larger, cost-efficient systems. Electrolyzer choice depended on application, with hybrid PEM/alkaline approaches common. However, new technologies faced significant scaling hurdles. Both blue and green hydrogen were viewed as complementary. Additionally, oil and gas explored integration of excess energy into hydrogen production.
