At the 2023 ADI Forum, Amy C. Davis, VP, Energy Transfer, Lake Charles LNG, and Dan McGinnis, CCO, Commonwealth LNG, joined Uday Turaga, CEO, ADI Analytics for the LNG and natural gas panel. They discussed regulations and policies affecting LNG project development. Since a key permit (FERC) was secured, regulations may become stricter, a common concern amongst competitors. FERC had a responsibility to various stakeholders and faced ongoing scrutiny regarding its past decisions, particularly concerning environmental assessments.
They shared their experience with government regulations, stating it was as much about politics as it is about following rules. They believed the industry is very efficient and safe but was being unfairly criticized. The biggest challenge was not always the regulations, but the opposition from non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
