At the 2023 ADI Forum, Dustin Stolz, Senior Analyst, ADI Analytics, shared key insights on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and the decarbonization of oil and gas. He provided context on the global decarbonization landscape. Stolz highlighted the EU’s Green Deal Industrial Plan as a response to the U.S. IRA. This plan was aimed at competing by simplifying regulations and boosting their green industry. However, it had less dedicated funding.
The outlook highlighted carbon capture and storage (CCS), emphasizing the significant scale-up needed to meet net-zero targets. Direct-air capture was described as a rapidly advancing technology spurred by IRA tax credits. Nevertheless, it was still in its early stages with a long way to go to reach the projected milestones. The increasing value and tightening supply of carbon markets were also discussed. Consequently, prices were expected to rise. Finally, small modular nuclear reactors were presented as a promising option for decarbonizing the oil and gas industry. These reactors provided both clean power and reduce emissions across the value chain.
